Business And Informational Technology (BAIT) Camp

North Dakota high school students have limited opportunity to gain hands-on experience in deciding career paths in the area of business and information technologies. As a result, many students do not consider careers in these occupational areas. Any students in grades 9-12 who think they may be interested in the Business and Informational Technology fields are encouraged to attend.

The BAIT Camp will be held on VCSU's campus June 13-15. Registration is limited. There is a registration fee which includes, 3 nights in the dorm, all meals, souvenir t-shirt, door prizes, and FUN! Celebrating National Family Day

National Family Day is an event that takes place the fourth Monday of September each year. It is sponsored by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) as a way to help decrease the risk of substance abuse and addiction in today's youth. The CASA Family Day promotes the importance of eating meals with your children, as research indicates this lowers this risk and improves student grades. We have chosen to celebrate this event and hope you'll join our efforts in reducing this risk among our youth by having dinner with your children sometime this week. As parents, you play a vital role in this effort.

With your help we can continue working toward a drug and substance free student environment here at Gackle-Streeter Public Schools. For more information and tips on what you can do as a parent to decrease this risk for your children, visit the CASA website at www.CASAFamilyDay.org

Based on nearly two decades of research at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, Joseph A. Califano, Jr.’s new book, How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid: The Straight Dope for Parents offers advice and information on how to prepare your child for their crucial decision-making moments. The video below offers a glimps at what this book has to offer parents of children and teens.

September is College Savings Month

Bank of North Dakota recommends families spend time this September, College Savings Month, considering how they will save for college. Families should consider opening a College SAVE account to explore the tax advantages offered to North Dakota residents, as well as the savings possibilities available with the plan.

Take advantage of College Savings Month to explore college savings benefits including two matching grant programs that are income sensitive and allow for increased savings for parents of newborns. Not only can families potentially get a dollar for dollar match of up to $400 ($1,000 for some lower income families) but the plan is designed to give families an opportunity to save for college with state tax advantages.

Any North Dakota taxpayer can invest in College SAVE and deduct up to $10,000 as a married couple each year from their state taxable income. Anyone who wants to make the beneficiary's future higher education possible can contribute to an account on behalf of the beneficiary, including grandparents, parents, and friends and take the deduction.

Visit www.collegesave4u.com for more information.
