Celebrating National Family Day

National Family Day is an event that takes place the fourth Monday of September each year. It is sponsored by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) as a way to help decrease the risk of substance abuse and addiction in today's youth. The CASA Family Day promotes the importance of eating meals with your children, as research indicates this lowers this risk and improves student grades. We have chosen to celebrate this event and hope you'll join our efforts in reducing this risk among our youth by having dinner with your children sometime this week. As parents, you play a vital role in this effort.

With your help we can continue working toward a drug and substance free student environment here at Gackle-Streeter Public Schools. For more information and tips on what you can do as a parent to decrease this risk for your children, visit the CASA website at www.CASAFamilyDay.org

Based on nearly two decades of research at The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, Joseph A. Califano, Jr.’s new book, How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid: The Straight Dope for Parents offers advice and information on how to prepare your child for their crucial decision-making moments. The video below offers a glimps at what this book has to offer parents of children and teens.
