Recycle-Bowl Competition

Gackle-Streeter School is one of 6 schools in the state of North Dakota participating in the Keep America Beautiful Recycle-Bowl Competition. As a way to teach kids about the importance of recycling and being a good citizen, this competition encourages students to do their part by recycling what they use at school.

The competition began on October 15th and will continue until November 9th. The Student Council is helping to keep this project running smoothly. Boxes were placed in each classroom as receptacles for paper and each week, our student council members circulate from room to room to empty the boxes. Our elementary students colored recycle signs that have been placed on some of the recycle boxes throughout the school. We are also collecting pop bottles and pop cans.

The math classes will begin weighing what we have collected thus far starting next week. The poundage we recycle will be divided by the number of students we have here at Gackle-Streeter to determine the greatest poundage per capita. If we end up with the greatest poundage, our school will win $1,000! Stay tuned for updates on our total poundage in the coming weeks.

Because we chose to compete in the school to school competition and not the community to community competition, we are unable to accept recyclables from home. Therefore, please do not send things from home.

If you would like to learn more about this event, visit www.recycle-bowl.org
